The Glass Skin Facial, Explained: What It Does, How Long It Lasts and What It Costs
Share
Glass skin is having a moment, and most of what is written about it is either a trend piece or an American clinic quoting American prices. Here is the straight version from a skin clinic in Bishop's Stortford that does the treatment every week.
What is a glass skin facial?
A glass skin facial is a multi-step treatment built around deep hydration, gentle exfoliation and barrier repair. The goal is skin that looks smooth, plump and light-reflective, which is where the name comes from. It is not a peel and it does not involve injectables. It works on the surface and just below it, layering hydration rather than stripping the skin back.
The idea comes from Korean skincare, where the emphasis has always been on hydration and barrier health rather than aggressive resurfacing.
Which glass skin facial is right for you
We offer three, and they are genuinely different treatments rather than three names for the same thing.
Express Glass Skin Facial, £77, 45 minutes. Everything we can fit into a lunch break. A triple cleanse, an enzyme peel, a session under our Dermalux Tri-Wave MD, the most powerful device in the Dermalux range, then cryoballs to cool the skin down. Suitable for all skin types, including acne and pigmentation. The one to book if you want a glow before an event and you are short on time.
The Korean Glass Skin Facial, £147, one hour. An eight-step luxury facial using some of the best Korean skincare available in the UK. The most indulgent of the three and the closest to the original Korean protocol. This treatment contains shellfish, so please tell us about any allergies when you book.
Glass Skin Facial, £147, one hour. Our best-seller, and the one we recommend most often. It is completely tailored to your skin rather than a fixed routine: double cleanse and tone, exfoliation, enzyme peel, facial massage and Dermalux LED. The massage gives the skin a proper workout while you get an hour of actual rest.
If you have been told a skin concern cannot be treated, this is the one to ask us about. There is no one-size-fits-all version of it.
What it feels like
The Glass Skin Facial is the perfect mix of relaxation from facial massage to a beautifully intense heat of LED light on your skin which makes you feel like you could be laying on a beach. The products feel hydrating and silky and will leave you feeling refreshed and hydrated.
Results, and how long they last
Most people see the effect immediately, with skin looking brighter and plumper the same day.
The glass-skin look holds for a few weeks rather than months, and it builds with repeat treatments and correct skincare as the barrier strengthens.
Downtime and side effects, honestly
There is zero downtime to this treatment and the only side effect is that you could look slightly pink from increased blood flow immediately after.
Glass skin facial or algae peel: which should you book?
These are the two treatments people most often weigh against each other here, and they do different jobs. Neither is the upgrade of the other.
- Book a glass skin facial if the problem is dullness, dehydration or a flat, tired look. It works by layering hydration and supporting the skin barrier. The glow is immediate, there is no downtime at all, and it is the better choice before an event.
- Book an algae peel if the problem is texture, congestion or blocked pores. It resurfaces, stimulating the skin's own renewal to bring fresher skin through. Expect warmth and tingling during the treatment, some pinkness on the day, and possibly light flaking a few days later as the skin turns over.
Put simply: the glass skin facial makes skin look its best now, and the algae peel changes what the skin is doing underneath. Plenty of clients alternate between the two, and if you are not sure which yours needs, a first-time skin assessment is included either way and we will tell you honestly.
